Narrandera Auto Repairs was one of the latest businesses to be hit in a string of break and enters across the town.
Owner and proprietor Gary O’Brien said that the thieves cut through two padlocked chains to break in through the back gate.
“We can’t keep them out. They’ve got angle grinders,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Unless you’ve got a building made out of concrete, you can’t keep them out.”
According both Mr O’Brien and the police, the thieves broke in the back gate and used a device to cut through the door, peeling back the tin to open the latch. The thieves then stole tools, computers and two cars. The cars were driven out through the front roller door.
One car, a Toyota Corolla, was found by the police on the corner of Old Wagga Road and Ridgeview Road. The car had been destroyed by fire.
The other car, a cherry red Toyota Camry, is still outstanding.
“I’ve been in the workshop 34 years and this is the first time I’ve been broken into,” Mr O’Brien said.
“It’s a shame for a town like Narrandera to get a reputation like this. It’s not good.”
Another break and enter in Narrandera was also reported to police in the last few days, but the details are not known.
Police are urging the public to report any incidents to local police on 6959 5999, or to report a crime as it is happening to 000. For any information regarding a crime, call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
