Narrandera identity and motoring enthusiast Gary Myers will stand as a NSW Senate candidate in the upcoming federal election for the Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party.

Mr Myers has opted for the hard road of politics to present the issues and concerns of the motoring enthusiast community to the wider population and to take the issues all the way to Canberra.

“I’ve been a motoring enthusiast my whole life," he said.

"My dad had the passion and passed it on to me.  I’ve passed it on to my kids – and hopefully my grand kids will have the motoring enthusiast gene, too.”

Mr Myers is well known for his involvement as a motor sports and motoring events competitor, as an elite show-car builder, and as a motor sport promoter with his own successful event GazzaNats held regularly all around Australia.

He has been a competitor at the Summernats Car Festival in Canberra for the past 26 years, both as a car builder and in the driving events, and has won many awards along the way.

“The awards I’m most proud of are Grand Champion, Top Show Elite, and People’s Choice, all of which involve your hand-crafted car being judged alongside those of some of the world's greatest car builders," he said.

“I’ve also won seven burnout titles at Summernats and I’m a Burnout Master."

Mr Myers is a strong advocate for road safety, and uses his influence over his fan-base to promote personal responsibility and to ‘take it to the track’.

“There is a time and a place to compete in your car, and the road is neither the time or the place," he said.

"I believe absolutely that a controlled environment is the only place to compete with your car.”
