Local Aboriginal artist Veronica Collins commenced work on the Griffith Regional Theatre mural, as part of the $1.2M upgrades. 

Ms Collins is a descendant of the Wiradjuri Nation, and has been exploring her culture through art for over 30 years. 

She was engaged to paint a mural on the outside of the newly constructed amphitheatre as an acknowledgment to the Wiradjuri people. 

The new amphitheatre has been constructed to provide additional informal gathering and performance space. Activating the Theatre’s adjoining outdoor areas will support casual events and performances by local artists, as well as provide additional space for patrons attending mainstage theatre events.

Griffith Regional Arts and Museum Manager, Raina Savage said showcasing Wiradjuri art in our new theatre entry statement and signage, is an important way to acknowledge and show respect to the region’s traditional owners. 

“This also signals the Theatre as an inclusive and welcoming place for all members of our community,” Ms Savage said.

“Having a world class artist like Veronica Collins within our community, who can create such an exciting contemporary interpretation of Wiradjuri culture was a huge bonus. 

“The wall is already attracting lots of positive attention, and will be a drawcard on the Western Riverina art trail.”
