Tiffany Thomas Kane OAM is the Australia Day Ambassador representing Narrandera Shire Council this year.
Tiffany is a gold medallist Australian Paralympic swimming champion whose determination and talent have made her a global sporting icon. Beginning swimming at just three-years-old, Tiffany’s resilience and drive propelled her onto the world stage by the age of 13, when she won gold and set a world record in the 100m breaststroke at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships, alongside silver and two bronze medals in freestyle and butterfly events.
Her meteoric rise continued at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, where Tiffany claimed gold in the 100m breaststroke SB6, setting a Paralympic record, and earned three bronze medals across butterfly, freestyle and individual medley. These achievements earned her the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) and cemented her status as one of Australia’s most accomplished Paralympians.
Tiffany went on to win gold at the 2019 World Paralympic Championships and brought home two bronze medals from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, competing in the S7, SB7 and SM7 classifications.
Following her retirement from elite swimming due to injuries, Tiffany now dedicates her life as a personal trainer, mentoring and inspiring others, particularly young athletes and people with disabilities.
As an Australia Day Ambassador, Tiffany celebrates inclusion, equality and community spirit. She is available to discuss:
• What Australia Day means to regional communities like Narrandera and the wider Riverina/Murray region
• Inspiring Australians to chase their dreams and overcome obstacles
• Inclusion and accessibility in sport and community life
• Her journey as a Paralympic champion and role model for resilience, discipline and determination.
As an Australia Day Ambassador, Tiffany celebrates the values of inclusion, equality and community spirit. For her, Australia Day is about recognising the strength and diversity that unite us as a nation and inspiring others to chase their dreams - no matter the obstacles. Tiffany’s journey reminds us that greatness is not measured by circumstance, but by the will to succeed.
