Time does work in mysterious ways.

I remember the first time I met Dolly at the Narrandera Nursing Home about 15 years ago.

I was so impressed with her devotion to duty and caring for residents, that I decided to take the time and put pen to paper, and tell Dolly’s amazing story to the wider community.

Fast forward 15 years and to my surprise I learnt Dolly was still with us, aged 20 years and in semi-retirement.

I decided now was the time to visit Dolly at her home with adopted parents Paul and Lynn Maloney and talk about her life since we last met in 2006.

Her focus was very much with Paul and spending quality time with him which I found quite moving.

Eventually, I put Dolly’s story into the Argus and at the exact time the paper was being printed I received a message from Lynn that Dolly had passed away peacefully – was this timing on Dolly’s behalf? Who knows?

Time was very important to Dolly. Her regime at the nursing home was ruled by the time of day or night. This is how she lived her life.

Thanks to the MiVet staff who took care of Dolly until the very end. Dolly was cremated and her ashes returned to Paul and Lynn.

On a happy note, the Maloneys adopted another fox terrier named Brooke a few months ago.

Dolly taught her the dos and don’ts of course, and now Brooke has taken over the seat on Paul’s mobility scooter.

Vale Dolly.
