The RSL sub-branch of Narrandera is facing a dilemma as a result of a ruling from the State Office of the Returned Services League.
The ruling has forced the local sub-branch to look for people who wish to help the members and take on voluntary positions within the sub-branch.
This means they will be looking to replace the secretary and the treasurer positions which are both held by Neville Wortlehock.
“Due to the rorting that went on in the big smoke and to bring things in line with the Charity’s Act of NSW, they made a ruling that anyone within the RSL Sub Branch and holds a position on the committee executive cannot hold a position on the Board of Directors of an ex-services or RSL services Club,” Mr Wortlehock said.
“If we are unable to fill these positions, as our members are no longer young and able, we will have two choices, fold or look at becoming a Chapter of another branch and lose our identity.”
The local sub-branch was started in Narrandera in 1926.
Mr Wortlehock has served on the Board of the Exies club for over 12 years and been president for nine of those years.
He said he would be staying on the Board of the club for the present future.
The Club supports the subbranch in many ways, as it is built into the Constitution of the Club.
“If any person feels they would have the office typing/minute skills to take on the role as secretary and someone has knowledge of simple accounting to take on the roles of treasurer they are urged to come forward,” Mr Wortlehock said.
These two positions are voluntary to help look after veterans and members.
Any person over the age of 18 years of age who believes in the welfare and care of past and current veterans can become a member of the RSL Sub-branch as an affiliative member and can receive benefit discounts the same as veteran do on purchases with different organisations.
Anyone able to assist should contact Mr Wortlehock 0417 095 587 for further information.
