The Narrandera women’s Australian football team (Eagles) lost by a 16-point margin against the CSU Bushpigs in their round 4 game in the Southern NSW Women’s League competition last weekend.
The Eagles 1.5 (11) went down against the Bushpigs 4.3 (27) on home turf at Narrandera Sportsground last Friday.
Milly Smith kicked the Eagles’ only goal of the game in the opening quarter, but in a low-scoring opening stanza, the Eagles trailed by just a single point.
Heading into the main break, the score was locked at 9-all, with the game up for grabs for both teams.
However, it was the Bushpigs that piled on the misery after the restart by keeping the Eagles scoreless, while kicking three goals to open up the largest lead in the game.
In the final quarter, the score remained unchanged as both teams failed to produce a single scoring shot between them.
Best players for the Eagles were Charlie Lamont, Tayla Fisher, Lucy Litchfield, Jasmine Morrison, Imogen Bloomfield and Dezi Moran.
The Eagles are still in touch of reaching a finals berth with two wins and two losses, with four games remaining before the finals series begins.
They sit 10th on the 14-team ladder, but just one win separates the top 10 teams.
In round 5, the Eagles will host the North Wagga Saints at Narrandera Sportsground.
Much is at stake as a victory for the Eagles would see them leapfrog the Saints on the ladder.
The bounce-up is scheduled for 6.30pm tomorrow (Friday).
