ACT and Regional NSW Community Football Regional Manager, Marc Geppert has stood down from his role.
In what leaves a huge hole to fill for AFL Riverina and the wider footballing community, Geppert has accepted a role with the Wagga Wagga City Council, which will still see him heavily connected to the Wagga sporting network.
The move was made by Geppert in a bid to pursue a more local opportunity, which will allow him to spend more time with his wife Jacinta and sons Hutch and Bobby, with the family also expecting another baby, which is not too far away.
Community Football Manager NSW/ACT John Boulous touched on Geppert’s services to AFL Riverina and the sport of football, at the same time thanking the long-time administrator for his commitment to a variety of roles over the past 17 years, particularly through the period of COVID-19.
“Marc or ‘Gep’ to most, has given an incredible 17 years of service to AFL NSW/ACT and the organisation is grateful for his passion, energy, and skill as a football administrator,” Boulous wrote.
Marc started with the AFL in 2004 as a casual employee, transitioned through the AFL SportsReady Traineeship into a Southern NSW Game Development role.
“Marc had many highlights in growing the game in the region, including record numbers in AFL 9s, Club Auskick, School competitions and was instrumental in the formation of female football competitions in the region.
“Importantly, Marc was instrumental during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, keeping our regional community football stakeholders informed and engaged through one of the most challenging periods for the code.
“Most recently, as the Community Football Regional Manager ACT / Regional NSW, he has led a large region and maintained a strong presence and support and in all areas of the game.
“Importantly, Marc and his team have expertly navigated the recent challenges and disruptions and have all leagues and clubs back playing for premierships this season across the region.
“Marc has shown a huge sense of dedication and commitment to the AFL and a role that most recently has undertaken responsibility for a large geographic area. Marc has always put the needs of his stakeholders and colleagues first and I am sure you will join with me in extending our thanks to Marc.”
Boulous wished Geppert all the best with his new endeavours and explained that the board would assess the current circumstances and the vacant role in the near future.
“Over the coming weeks we will work with and keep our stakeholders and staff updated around planning to address the board responsibilities Marc currently undertakes as part of this role, as well as the role itself,” Boulous wrote.
“On behalf of AFL NSW/ACT, we want to thank Marc and his family for their commitment to our great game and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. We are looking forward to seeing him at footy matches around our region as a spectator, fan, and supporter.”
