The formal Remembrance Day Commemoration for the Coolamon Shire was held in Ardlethan this year, where over 100 people gathered to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served, and continue to serve, Australia and its allies.
The ceremony was supported by soldiers from the Australian School of Ordenance, Bandiana, and the Coolamon RSL Sub Branch. A flyover by a RAAF C130 Hercules concluded the formalities.
Following the formal ceremony, a special unveiling of a statue took place. The artwork, created by renowned artist Andrew Whitehead depicts a WWII soldier from the New Guinea campaign, in a moment of reflection as he reads a letter from home.
The artwork, which was commissioned by the Ardlethan Lions Club, and whose fundraising efforts funded the project, now sits in front of the Ardlethan Soldiers Memorial Hall which was dedicated to the town by returned WW1 Veterans.
