St Joseph’s Catholic School Narrandera students have had a busy and successful time competing in sports events, including those at Griffith and Canberra.
SJN Sports Co-ordinator Amber Golsby said 60 students participated in the NSW Schools Cup at Griffith which is a mixed netball competition aimed at promoting the sport among both boys and girls.
All teams had a fantastic day developing their netball skills, she said.
Parents jumped on board to coach some of the teams and seven Narrandera High School students umpired the games.
Without their support days like this would not be possible, Ms Golsby said.
St Joseph’s School achieved some great success on the day with one of the senior sides winning their grand final and progressing to the next level. They were Zara Donaldson, Abby McLean, Zoe Lawrence, Sasha Quinn, Estelle Annetts Prior, Max Smith, Jacon Gordon, Archie Powell and Hilton Hill.
Years 4, 5 and 6 students participated in the recent Paul Kelly Cup at Griffith. Both teams did an incredible job making it through to their respective grand finals in the boys and girls competitions.
The girls team fought hard all day playing against strong competition but were outdone by an experienced Griffith Public School team.
It was a similar result for the boys, who played off against Griffith Small Schools in their grand final and stood strong to the very end coming away with a nailbiting win 37 to 33.
The boys will now represent the school against other Riverina schools in June.
SJN students Jacob Gordon and Sam Mohr travelled to Canberra to participate in the recent 2023 Mackillop Rugby League Trials in Canberra.
They faced tough competition right from all across NSW and performed well for the Wagga team. While they failed to progress any further they represented the school to a high standard.

The school also hosted its own annual Athletics Carnival at Narrandera High School. It was a beautiful day with some incredible athletic achievements.
