Ganmain Cricket Club, Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Lions Football/Netball Club and the Ganmain Sportsgrounds Trust will come together to redevelop the Ganmain sportsground.

As part of that decision the cricketers decided to vacate the ground for this season to allow the works go ahead.

With kick-off just a few weeks away, new options had to be looked at. These were:

* A season played fully on the road (not ideal for players, sponsors or supporters)

* Ground-sharing at Kindra Park with Coolamon Cricketers (unlikely due to the Rovers’ return)

* Relocating to the Matong Sportsground – keeping Ganmain cricket community together while creating a lasting asset for junior and senior cricket, community events and club fundraisers.

After careful consideration, the cricket club decided Matong was the best fit.

Already, Rory Menzies and Col McKinnon have stepped up, fundraising to bring competitive sport back to Matong for the first time since the footy club’s historic games against the Narrandera Imperials (now Eagles).

They are asking the community to get behind this proposal. Donations of $250 are helping fund a new synthetic wicket, but every bit of support counts – big or small.

“Together, we can create a venue that supports not only sport but the heart of our community,” a cricket club spokesperson said.
