Competition will be heating up on Lake Talbot next month as the nation’s top water skiers battle it out in round three of the NSW/ACT Malibu Series Water Ski Tournament.
Competitors are expected to attend the round on February 6-7 at Narrandera from Albury, Wagga, Lake Cargelligo, Sydney, Queanbeyan and Canberra.
The tricks class caters for categories from zero to 5000 points in the juniors up to skiers on 3000 plus points, the slalom event from the mini course to 13 metres plus, and the jump event from zero to 10 metres up to the seniors on 45 metres plus.
A total of 50 competitors will be chasing the ratings they need to represent at the state titles at Albury and NSW at the Australian Water Ski Championships at Mulwala at Easter (pending a decision on February 2).
They range in age from seven to 60 years competing across the three events.
Two annual trophies will be awarded over the Narrandera tournament, the Geoff Princehorn Most Improved Zone 5 junior and the Most Outstanding Performance award.
Narrandera Aquatic Ski Club tournament organiser Phil Carmichael said spectators were welcome to watch the action over the weekend.
Mr Carmichael said the water level in Lake Talbot had returned to normal levels in time for the competition.
Narrandera will have some local talent competing on the weekend with Graham Ashcroft, Callan Ashcroft, Mitchell Barber and Cherie Buck.
Callan competed at the Junior Moomba Masters, is Australian Junior Masters overall champion, Australian junior team member, and is due to compete at the World Under 17 Water Ski Championships in Florida.
Cherie competed in the slalom, trick and jump at the 2018 World Championships at the Mirandas Ski Club in Chile.
The lake will be closed to all other boat users over Friday and Saturday and entry to the public during the tournament is free from 7.30am each day.
