Rep basketball win for under 12 boys

It’s been a busy three weeks for Narrandera basketball, with grand finals of the Autumn opens and junior competitions and then John Martin Country Tournament played over the long weekend. A composite team of five U12 Narrandera Knights and two Griffith Demons boys travelled to Terrigal to compete in the annual Country Tournament. Nominated in Division 2, the Knights met fierce competition but were able to defeat Tumut 65-13, Canberra 58-39, Central Coast 71-26 and Illawarra Black 61-40. After winning their semi-final against Illawarra Red 39-32, the boys then defeated Tamworth 56-30 in the grand final with Kabe Flanagan awarded the most valuable player (MVP). Coach Rex Evans was delighted with the team’s performance and praised the players for their effort across the three days. Recently retired Knights junior Jariah Lancaster accompanied the team as referee and was selected to officiate in a semi-final match. U12 boys and U14 girls Knights sides will continue training as they prepare for State Cup in August. The Association is planning skills sessions early in term three for developing juniors. These sessions will be targeted at players who do not have representative experience, but are keen build on skills for local competition and as prospective Knights.
