Motorists in the four shires of Temora, Coolamon, Bland and Junee may have noticed that they have had their speed checked in recent weeks.
A mobile speed checking trailer has been deployed in 50 km/h areas around the region to remind motorists to slow down.
The speed of each vehicle is checked and displayed for the driver to clearly see.
Data from the unit has revealed several excessive speeds detected in all four shires.
Driving too fast is the single biggest contributor to death and injury on NSW roads.
Each year, speeding contributes to about 42 per cent of road fatalities and 25 per cent of serious injuries.
Almost 128 lives are lost and 1050 people are seriously injured each year.
Within the four shires, speeding continues to be the most common cause of serious crashes.
Even a minor increase in speed can dramatically affect stopping distances and the severity of a crash.
If a car hits a pedestrian at 50 km/h, the impact is twice as likely to cause death as if the car had been travelling at 40 km/h.
As part of local initiative, Council Road Safety Officer, Steve Bloomfield has also installed Slow Down signs in areas suggested by residents who are concerned about speeding.
The signs reinforce the responsibility of drivers to drive at an appropriate speed.
With harvest underway and the holiday season approaching, it is a timely opportunity to remind motorists to drive safely wherever they are.
