Western Local Land Services is offering landholders an incentive to participate in coordinated fox baiting control programs this spring and autumn 2026.

Through the Western fox baiting project, any landholder that purchases 1080 fox baits in spring 2025 and meets the eligibility criteria, can receive the same amount of fox baits in autumn 2026 for no further cost.

Through the project, the price for 1080 wing baits is reduced from $0.70 to $0.60 each, with Western Local Land Services biosecurity officers to work with eligible landholders to determine the number of baits based on property size and other factors.

Western Local Land Services pest animal coordinator, Danielle Barrett is encouraging landholders to get onboard with this opportunity and make the most of the incentive.

“Landholders wanting to control foxes and reduce their impacts on their livestock, primary production and local environment have a great opportunity through this incentive project,” Danielle said.

“The support on offer essentially halves the cost of your seasonal fox baiting program while also promoting collaboration between neighbouring properties. It will hopefully result in a significant reduction of the impacts from foxes on livestock producers.”

To participate in the Western fox baiting project, landholders must be eligible as per the following conditions:

• be based in the Western Local Land Services region and be a Local Land Services ratepayer

• do not have any outstanding rates, fees or payments to Local Land Services

• be part of a coordinated fox baiting group, which at a minimum involves three neighbouring holdings all baiting at the same time

• holdings located in areas where wild dogs are present must have previously purchased fox baits since 1 March 2024

• landholders must hold AQF3 or Vertebrate Pesticides Induction Training certification. VPIT can be completed online via www.nsw.gov.au/vpit

To get involved and confirm their eligibility, landholders should contact a Western Local Land Services biosecurity officer via 1300 795 299 or admin.western@lls.nsw.gov.au
