The MIA District RFS advises the community that a ‘NO Burn Period’ will be in place from Tuesday 23 December 2025 until Sunday 4 January 2026 inclusive.
During this period, no permits for burning grass, stubble, rubbish, windrows or any other fire for land clearing will be issued.
Allowable fires:
Fires for the purpose of cooking food, provided that:
• the fire is in a permanently constructed fireplace.
• at a site surrounded by ground that is cleared of all combustible materials for a distance of at least three metres all around.
• the fire is completely extinguished before leaving.
Fire permits will become available again from Monday 5 January 2026, subject to conditions.
“The introduction of a No Burn Period is a vital step in keeping our community safe during a traditionally high-risk time,” MIA district manager Scott Connor said.
“By suspending burn permits over the holiday period, our volunteers can respond quickly and confidently to any reported fire as a potential emergency. We thank residents for their cooperation and urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any smoke or fire immediately.”
The MIA District RFS thanks residents for their cooperation and urges everyone to remain vigilant, report smoke or fires promptly, and help keep the community safe over the holiday period.
