The Narrandera women’s Australian football team (Eagles) has pulled off a fantastic 22-point victory against the Turvey Park Bulldogs in round 3 of the Southern NSW Women’s League competition.
The Eagles 5.6 (36) defeated the Bulldogs 2.2 (14) on home turf at Narrandera Sportsground, last Friday, to record their second consecutive victory, after defeating the Northern Jets in the previous round.
At the end of a low-scoring and goalless opening quarter, the Eagles led by two behinds to one.
Adding a six-pointer and another two behinds, while keeping the Bulldogs scoreless in the second quarter, the Eagles took a nine-point lead into the main break.
Entering into the final quarter, the lead remained the same as both teams added a single goal to their tally in the third quarter.
The Eagles kicked on during the final stanza and put the game out of reach by booting another three goals and two behinds, while restricting their opponents to a single goal and a behind with a strong defensive effort.
The Eagles’ goal kickers included Elli Hay (2) and one each from Paige Mathewson, Jasmine Morrison and Lucy Hickenbotham.
Best players for the Eagles included Elli Hay, Paige Mathewson, Lucy Litchfield, Samantha Dwyer, Lucy Hickenbotham and Evie Morrison.
In round 4, the Eagles will be aiming for three wins in a row when they host the CSU Bushpigs at Narrandera Sportsground.
The bounce-up is scheduled for 6.30pm tomorrow (Friday).
