Narrandera Landcare Group (NLG) are holding a Wildflower Walk Saturday August on Bundidgerry Hill to mark the beginning of Spring. The hill is a very diverse patch of vegetation, and these walks are a great introduction to the local flora.

NLG spokesperson, Nella Smith, said “In dry or drought conditions this hill looks like a rocky, gravelly wasteland but in a good season it just comes alive with wildflowers. With the good seasonal conditions of the last three years the hill is looking particularly spectacular.”

National Wattle Day is the 1st September and 5 or 6 species of wattles can be found on the hill. Nella said “Many of the wattles are flowering now and make a great backdrop to the purple and blue flowers on the Native Indigo and Nodding Blue-lily. The mosses and lichens are providing a beautiful green groundcover, and numerous orchids and other forbs are appearing.”

Handouts of some of the plants to be seen on the day will be given out and members of the Murrumbidgee Field Naturalists will be along helping with species identification.

If you’re interested in participating meet at the intersection of Old Wagga Road and Ridgeview Road at 2pm. NLG asks you wear sturdy footwear, a hat and bring a water bottle and camera if you like.
