A heavy horse team from Barellan brought home the nation’s pioneer heritage to tens of thousands of city residents at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Bruce and Colin Bandy, Barellan, Stephen and Jan Johnson, Lake Cargelligo, and David Irvin, Barellan, staged a heritage display with a wool wagon and Clydesdale team, and an historic tractor and Furphy train at the show from April 1-12.

The horse team did a total of 50 laps of the Giants Stadium in front of thousands of show goers each day.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke spent two days at the show helping the team.

“They travelled 10 hours with their beautiful draught horses and all the gear, and staying for weeks away from their homes, families and work, so city folk could see a glimpse into a bygone era,” Ms Cooke said.

“It reminded us all of the remarkable horses and horsemen and women of previous generations, and having Bruce, Colin and Steve guide their horses to pull a wool wagon around Giants Stadium twice daily was a fantastic and fitting tribute to those who helped build this nation.”

Ms Cooke said they did Barellan and the entire Cootamundra electorate proud.

“Personally, spending time over two days with Bruce, Colin, Steve and Mick was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve had,” she said.

“Helping prepare and care for their beautiful Clydies was a tremendous honour.

“Riding with them on the wagon was a moving experience and one I’ll never forget.”
