A $282,000 clubhouse revamp was unveiled at Langtry Oval on the weekend for the Marrar Bombers before they scored a massive 85-point win over Northern Jets in their Farrer AFL opener.
James Lawton was the star of the show on Saturday scoring six goals in a dream debut.
Tobias Lawler backed up with three goals himself as Marrar kicked off the season with a 105-20 win over Northern Jets.
But it wasn’t just on the field that was source for excitement at Langtry Oval on Saturday.
Off the field, ‘The Hangar’ – Marrar Bombers’ new clubroom – was officially unveiled.
The new facilities were officially opened by the Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke and were supported by three NSW Government grants:
- $275,000 from the Stronger Country Communities fund to upgrade the Langtry Oval amenities
- $3000 from the 2020 Community Building Partnership for heating/air conditioning
- $4482 from the Sports Grants for security cameras and a PA system Ms Cooke said it was clear the Marrar community had put time and effort in to the new space
“This amazing facility has given the club a meeting place, spectator seating, club rooms and facilities for the netballers,” Ms Cooke said.
“It’s going to allow more people to enjoy local sport and shows the NSW Government’s commitment to strengthening our regional communities.
“It’s such a joy to see local sport return and for the Marrar Bombers to have this new space to celebrate, the club should be very proud of what they have achieved here.”
Marrar Football and Netball Club President John Carroll said the community had come together to get the facilities finished.
“Marrar is a small community, so this is so important. This is huge for the club, our old facility had virtually nothing for our netballers so it’s so great we have this now,” Mr Carroll said.
“It’s wonderful to have a sheltered area people can come and watch the footy and hopefully see the Bombers win.”
“So many people volunteered their time to get this work finished. We’ve ended up with a great facility and everyone is very proud.”
