The switch to the Riverina league has paid dividends for the Osborne Ostriches as the club brought home the silverware in 2020 in the Under 17s against Leeton Whitton Crows.

The Ostriches were down to the Crows at quarter time 2.0 (12) to 1.4 (10) at Wagga’s Robertson Oval on Saturday, but bounced back to take the lead at the main break by 3.7 (25) to 3.4 (22).

Osborne coach Jamie Parr rallied the troops, resulting in an extended lead over the Crows at three quarter time of 6.11 (47) to 4.6 (30).

At the final siren, Osborne were the AFL Riverina Gallagher Championship premiers, downing Leeton Whitton 8.11 (59) to 6.6 (42).

Joseph Perryman, Joseph Clancy, Jeremy Piercy, Ryan Collins, Luke Fellows, Macauley Armstrong, Edward O’Connell, and Nicholas Madden all kicked one goal apiece for Osborne.

For the Leeton Whitton Crows, Jye Doyle kicked three, Emerson Cody, Jaedan Celi, and James Buchanan all one apiece.

Best players for Osborne were Edward O’Connell, Harry Wichman, Royce Hunter, Joshua McDonnell, Ethan Weidemann and Macauley Armstrong. Best players for Leeton Whitton Crows were Jye Doyle, Hunter Booth, Jay Tang, Zane Pannowitz, Angus Crelley and Kane Williams.

In the seniors, Wagga Tigers put on a mid-game burst to decimate the Leeton Whitton Crows 16.8 (104) to 12.11 (83).

Best players for Leeton were Lucas Meline, Thomas Meline, Samuel Hopper, Mitchell Hardie, Ryan Grey and Bryce O’Garey.

In the netball, Osborne went down to Turvey Park Bulldogs 25-19 in the B grade, while Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Lions are the Under 17 netball premiers with Lions player Abbey Hamblin named as best on court. The Lions scored 33 goals to Osborne’s 30.
