As the town’s official GP vaccination hub, the Narrandera Medical Centre has delivered more than 500 first doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine.
This includes about 370 people over 70, which is nearly half of Narrandera’s population in this age group (excluding aged care residents). At the same time, the practice has delivered 800 regular flu vaccinations.
Liz Romeo, executive director of Narrandera Medical Centre, said the practice had been working through the waiting list of those eligible under Phase 1b and most of those eligible on the list had either been vaccinated or allocated an appointment.
“Some are waiting due to the timing of their Fluvax, but this is a relatively small number,” she said.
Mrs Romeo urged anyone over 70 who has still not registered to phone the practice on 6958 1000 so that staff can schedule their COVID vaccination.
“As of May 17, those over 50 years of age can also receive vaccination at the Narrandera practice. We are unable to provide AstraZeneca vaccination to those under 50, regardless of health condition or indigenous status at this stage,” she said.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District is running Pfizer and AZ clinics in Wagga Wagga continuously, and Griffith week about, and will provide the Pfizer vaccine to those under 50 who are NSW Health health care workers, private aged care workers, ambulance, fire, police, RFS, SES, private pathology, private radiology, GP’s and practice nurses. After May 24 they will also be vaccinating other people, but Pfizer is still not available to anyone who wants it.
