The Coolamon Rovers’ women’s Australian football team suffered a 40-point loss against the CSU Bushpigs in round 5 of the Southern NSW Women’s League last Friday night.
The defeat has left the Rovers 0.0 (0) with back-to-back losses, but in this game on home turf at Kindra Park, they failed to record a single scoring shot as they were held scoreless throughout the four quarters against the Bushpigs 4.16 (40).
The losing margin could have been much worse if the Bushpigs had been more accurate in front of the goalposts.
The Bushpigs kicked four goals, but four times as many behinds.
All was not lost for the Rovers at the end of the opening quarter as they trailed by just 10 points, but heading into the break, they were losing by 25 points and would need a reversal of form to give themselves any chance of getting back into the game.
The Rovers did manage to slow their opponents’ scoring after the restart, but were always facing an uphill task to claw their way back into the game.
Six behinds for the Bushpigs in the final quarter sealed the Rovers’ fate and delivered a fourth loss of the season.
They sit 11th on the ladder with their finals’ hopes in the balance, with just three games remaining and already needing other results to go in their favour.
The Rovers’ best players included Abby Higman, Annabelle Palmer, Emmerson Buchegger, Emerson Leary and Bridget Bell.
They will face an away game against the Griffith Swans in round 6, at the Griffith Ex-Servicemen’s Fields 2 tomorrow (Friday) in round 5.
The bounce-up is scheduled for 7.30pm.
