Last Sunday’s Ganmain Triathlon proved to be a popular event with a great turnout of competitors.

One of the biggest community events on the calendar, which is a fundraiser for the junior Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Football and Netball Club (Lions), attracted many visitors to the town to enter various categories, including sub-junior, junior, enticer and open, plus a few teams.

A total of 66 competitors entered the main event, the open sprint race.

Ben Devries was the big winner on the day, emerging victorious in the open sprint race with a time of 58:11.

Radka Kahlefeldt finished in second place with a time of 1:00:16.

Leeton Triathlon Club member Nathan Carn placed third with a time of 1:01:42.

Geordie Probert was the first over 50 male to finish and impressively, finished in sixth place overall.

The team event winners were: The Maccas, comprising Renee McLachlan, Jacob McLachlan and Chloe McLachlan, with a time of 1:10:46.

Jacob McLachlan also won the enticer category in a field of 31 entrants with a time of 28:22.

Freddy Steele won the junior triathlon (nine-14 years old) with a time of 28:42 in a field of 36 competitors.

The Trihards female relay team, comprising Summer Lawson, Maisie Chamberlain and Andie Lawrence, won the Junior Triathlon Relay Team event with a time of 31:59.

Hilton Seaman placed first in the sub-junior (eight years and under) event with a time of 9:57.
